The series consists of manuscripts and appointment calendars of the President's Office of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) during Martin Luther King's tenure from 1954-1959. The series includes speeches (1960-1967) and sermons (1954-1967) by King, transcripts of interviews of King, and newspaper columns written by King (1962-1965). The materials document King's and the SCLC's views on a variety of topics, including the Vietnam War, the civil rights demonstrations in Birmingham (Ala.), and J. Edgar Hoover. The series also contains some of King's itineraries and King's appointment calendars (1959-1960, 1963-1965).
